Heathrow Airport luggage delivery

The Heathrow baggage system of delivery is handled by the Excess Baggage Company and delivers baggage “door-to-door”.

Excess Baggage Company areas are located at all arrivals terminals at Heathrow Airport. The service can also be booked from all central London railway stations. Delivery is available to hotels, offices, and residences.

Transferbags prices start from £45 ($53,76 or €50,85) for the first bag and +£10 ($11,95 or €11,30) for each subsequent bag. Prices of Heathrow baggage services depend on the amount of luggage, the items' size, and the distance over which they must be transported.

Heathrow baggage trolleys

The luggage trolley at Heathrow Airport is available free of charge in areas around the terminal building. Incoming passengers can find many trolleys where luggage is handed out, and may take them to the car park, bus station, and train station if necessary.

Passengers departing from the airport can find trolleys in the departure lounges, but are not allowed to take them through security.

The airport requests that, for your safety, children should not be allowed to ride on luggage trolleys.

Heathrow Airport lost and found

A dedicated luggage retrieval service allows passengers to find their lost luggage at the airport. You can look up Heathrow lost and found on their website to find out more about the options available and how this service works.

Opening hours: 09:00 - 16:00 Monday to Saturday (closed Sunday).

Lines are open from 09:00 to 15:00 (UK time).

If you lose an item on board - contact your airline.

LHR baggage claim

Heathrow baggage claim areas are located in the arrivals hall: follow the signs on the digital signage to find your flight's conveyor belt. Then proceed to the indicated belt number, where your luggage will be delivered, and wait for it to appear. Once you have retrieved your bags, you can use the trolleys located in the reclaim area.

To find the precise location of the baggage claim areas you may use the map of Heathrow Airport.

Heathrow Airport baggage rules

The baggage rules at Heathrow airport also depend on the airline you choose. It is advisable to check all restrictions and details in advance.

Heathrow Airport carry-on restrictions apply for certain weights, quantities, and dimensions of luggage. If your carry-on does not adhere to the restrictions, you will have to pay an extra baggage fee or you may even have to pay a fine.

Please check the relevant information in advance to avoid inconveniences before your flight.

Heathrow hand luggage restrictions

To avoid delays and long queues, there is a two-baggage allowance rule at the security checkpoint. The rule allows for only two pieces of luggage to be taken through security, and please note that the Heathrow Airport baggage allowance size is 56 cm x 45 cm x 25 cm (22in x 18in x 10in). Any bags above these dimensions must be handed over as hand luggage. Also, Heathrow hand luggage size is checked on a special measuring device at check-in.

Read more about the items you may bring with you:

  • Bags and laptop bags are considered hand luggage. They must be charged or you may not be allowed to take them onto the plane.
  • Food, medicines, and powders: please carry them in your hand luggage whenever possible (except on flights to the United States - see below). They may interfere with the X-ray equipment or be confiscated due to their suspicious appearance. Consequently, it is better to carry them in your hand luggage to avoid delays during check-in.
  • For those travelling to the USA: your Heathrow hand luggage is subject to restrictions if you are carrying more than 350ml (the size of a drink can) or 350g of powder. These items are not permitted on board. Amongst the items permitted, medical powders such as medicines, baby powder, and human ashes are still allowed, but are subject to additional inspection.

Can you carry chocolate in hand luggage at Heathrow?

For solid chocolate, there is no quantity limit for any luggage type. In the case of liquid chocolate, the Heathrow Airport luggage weight is limited, as stated in the rules.

Heathrow carry-on liquids

The rules for carrying liquid items in hand luggage apply to all liquids, creams, gels, pastes, and aerosols carried through security screening.

Liquid items may only be carried in containers not exceeding 100ml (or 3,3oz). They must be in a separate transparent bag that is sealable and no larger than 20cm x 20cm (8in x 8in).

While you are at security check, you must place your bag in the special tray with your other belongings. Once in the tray, the amount of liquid in your belongings cannot be disturbed, and if you have an item exceeding 100ml (or 3,3oz) it will be confiscated.

However, there are exceptions:

  • Baby food and/or milk. Breastmilk can be carried on board as long as it is stored in a clean, transparent container or bag. The volume of the container may not exceed 2000ml (or 67,6oz). Frozen breastmilk cannot be carried on board. If you are travelling without a baby, the general rule of 100ml (or 3,3oz) applies to you for other baby juice/food, but you still will be allowed to carry breast milk in amounts of up to 2 litres (67,6oz).
  • Liquid medication. If you require certain medicines during the flight, you are permitted to exceed the allowance permitted by airport regulations. Please bring the original prescription for the medication in order to request an exception. Any medication you do not need during the flight must be carried as hand luggage.

Please note that the airlines themselves may have different baggage rules from those of the airport.

To make use of pre-booking services, call 0800 678 5324.

Heathrow Duty-Free luggage rules

Most of the items you purchase in the duty-free zone can be taken onboard the aircraft. This includes bottled drinks, perfumes, and cosmetics over 100ml.

There are some exceptions:

if you are flying to Australia, liquids in containers larger than 100ml, without a duty-free exception, may not be taken on board.

Connections after Heathrow.

If you make an intermediate stop at Heathrow, the same luggage restrictions will also apply. This is because you must go through security checks again before boarding.

Return the same day.

If you are returning on the same day, depending on your destination, there are some restrictions on the sale and carry-on of liquids at Heathrow. This is because you will need to go through security again when making your return flight.
